69th session of the Commission: Promoting circular economy and sustainable use of natural resources in the UNECE region

ONLINE

20/04/2021 - 10:00 to 21/04/2021 - 18:00

The UNECE region leads the world in producing, value-adding and transforming its natural resources for socio-economic consumption. However, these resources are often finite. Their production and consumption require enormous energy and other resource inputs, and lead to environmental degradation and increased vulnerability to climate change – effects that are compounded on the region’s increasingly urbanized populations. Transitioning to a more circular economy and sustainable use of natural resources is crucial for achieving the SDGs.

The 69th session of the UNECE, that will take place from 20 to 21 April 2021, will gather ministers and deputy ministers from the region and provide countries with an opportunity to:

  • Exchange experiences on transitioning to a more circular economy and sustainable use of natural resources
  • Identify gaps and ways to address them
  • Share their success stories via dedicated webinars and exhibits
  • Submit voluntary commitments related to the theme of the session to accelerate progress in the region
