JRC / HaDEA Technical Workshop

Brussels, Belgium - Hybrid

23/11/2023 - 09:00 to 24/11/2023 - 13:00

Minerals and metals intelligence is increasingly vital. In the context of the revamped RMIS, this workshop continues the well-established and essential annual dialogue between the EC, HaDEA, EIT Raw Materials and EU-funded projects in relation to current project outputs and further knowledge developments of mutual interest.

In March 2023, the EC proposed the CRM Act. The Act emphasises specific groups of materials that the EC considers fundamental for sustainable, circular and solid societal development. These include not only Critical Raw Materials (CRM), but also Strategic and Advanced materials. The Act highlights the necessity for knowledge in relation to raw materials demand as well as supply associated with value chains, supply risks, foresight circularity, and the product environmental footprint; amongst others.

The EC’s RMIS supports the availability, coherence and coordination of raw materials intelligence at the EU level. Acting together, core raw materials knowledge in the RMIS comes from a variety of sources, including from EC in-house work, Horizon projects, as well as EIT-RM projects. On March 14th, the EC also released a new version of the RMIS, the so-called RMIS 3.0 – a major revamp. RMIS 3.0 includes a newly designed homepage and more powerful and intuitive search functionalities. Content is re-grouped into a wide number of “topics” accessible from a dedicated tab in the upper menu. This includes, for example, topics more clearly focused on demand from different value chains, current and future, as well as analyses of supply including from recycling.

This 2023 edition of the RMIS workshop brings together key stakeholders and contributors to help identify the most relevant raw materials knowledge outputs from EU funded projects that can factually support this transition, as well as to facilitate the integration of such outputs into the RMIS, towards increasing their visibility and relevance for policy and community support. Considering the above focus areas, participants will discuss:
· How to facilitate technical dialogue (both IT and content-wise) for efficient knowledge transfer (day 1);
· How to increase awareness of project outputs and how best these can support identified policy priorities through RMIS (day 1);
· How knowledge developed by the EC and its knowledge network support the strengthening of the underlying raw materials knowledge (day 2).

ERA-MIN will contribute with presentations both on Session 3 and Session 4, with presentations from the ERA-MIN funded projects: MONAMIX, CIDER, PROPER, MaXycle and our coordinator Dina Carrilho, presenting ERA-MIN project
