The Commission has adopted the second strategic plan for Horizon Europe

12/04/2024

During the flagship Research and Innovation Days, the European Commission unveiled the second strategic plan for Horizon Europe, outlining key directives for the program's final three years (2025-2027).

The plan focuses on three pivotal areas:

  • Green Transition: Addressing climate change and biodiversity loss.
  • Digital Transition: Embracing digitalization and technological advancement.
  • Resilience and Inclusivity: Building a more resilient, competitive, inclusive, and democratic Europe.

These orientations aim to tackle pressing global challenges while ensuring Europe's leadership in critical technologies. A significant commitment is made towards biodiversity, with 10% of Horizon Europe's budget for 2025-2027 earmarked for biodiversity-related initiatives. This complements existing targets for climate and digital expenditures.

The plan introduces nine new European co-funded and co-programm partnerships covering diverse fields: Brain Health, Forests and Forestry for a Sustainable Future, Innovative Materials for EU, Raw Materials for the Green and Digital Transition, Resilient Cultural Heritage, Social Transformations and Resilience, Solar Photovoltaics, Textiles of the Future, and Virtual Worlds.
