LAB2MARKET From idea to start-up

The EIT RawMaterials Lab2Market program invites Master’s and PhD students to embark on an entrepreneurial journey, translating scientific research into sustainable solutions for the raw materials sector. Open to EIT Labelled students, PhD students in raw materials-related studies, and interdisciplinary teams, the program aims to nurture innovative solutions ready for market entry. The Lab2Market program represents a valuable opportunity for aspiring entrepreneurs to transform research into impactful businesses, contributing to the sustainable development of the raw materials value chain.

The program is divided into three phases, Lab2Market guides participants through ideation, start-up development, and incubation, providing comprehensive support through info days, design thinking labs, bootcamp training, mentoring sessions, networking events, and a pitching competition.

The thematic focus centers on minerals, metals, and advanced materials as critical enablers for achieving the goals of the European Green Deal. Applicants are encouraged to address challenges in mineral exploration, responsible sourcing, mineral and metallurgical processes, recycling, substitution of critical materials, and circular economy concepts.

Key dates

  • Deadline for applications Phase 1: 31 January 2024, 17:00 CET
  • Selection of participants of Phase 1 and notification of decision:  by 15 February 2024
  • Phase 1 – Ideation: February-May 2024
  • Deadline for applications Phase 2: 16 April 2024, 17:00 CET
  • Selection of participants of Phase 2 and notification of decision: late April 2024
  • Phase 2 – Start-up Development: May-June 2024
  • Pitching Competition: late June 2024
  • Phase 3 – Incubation: July – December 2024

Incentives for participants include awards of up to €10,000 for the best four start-ups and funding ranging from €3,000 to €17,000 for up to 15 teams entering Phase 3.
