Overview of EU participation in raw material field of H2020

25/09/2017

The two main challenges facing the EU in the frame of raw material are the high dependency on the import of raw materials and the security of the supply of raw materials, which are reflected in Horizon 2020.

In the framework of the H2020 SC5, raw materials part is focused mainly on non-energy and non-agricultural raw materials used in industry. Since the launch of Horizon 2020 in 2014 till February 2017, the European Commission received 198 proposals from which 40 were recommended for funding, among others the ERA-NET Cofund on Raw Materials ERA-MIN 2.

It is noteworthy that at least 15% of all SC5 proposals in 19 of EU countries are aimed on raw materials (without including the SME instrument).
