UNECE Resource Management Week 2021

Palais des Nations, Geneva , Switzerland and ONLINE

26/04/2021 - 10:00 to 30/04/2021 - 18:00

The UNECE Resource Management Week 2021 - 12th Session of the Expert Group on Resource Management will take place at the Palais des Nations, Geneva, Switzerland and Online from 26–30 April 2021.

The Week will showcase outstanding results in applying the United Nations Framework Classification for Resources (UNFC) worldwide and global commitment to the United Nations Resource Management System (UNRMS). UNFC and UNRMS development by the Expert Group on Resource Management (EGRM) provides essential tools for applying sustainability principles and transforming resource management in a way that leaves everyone (and the planet!) better off.

The following sessions are of interest for the ERA-MIN community: "New UNFC specifications and ESG-focused investments (Minerals)" on Tuesday 27 April 15:00-17:00, "Towards circularity in resource production and use" on Wednesday 28 April 10:00-12:00 and "Critical Raw Materials: The driver for the new lowcarbon economy" on Wednesday 28 15:00-17:00.

Government policymakers, industry leaders, investment managers and civil society organizations are working to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and to accelerate decarbonization of society. Attaining the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will require secure and sustainable supply of natural resources, but the production and use of those natural resources should not undermine the very SDGs they are intended to support.

Sustainability principles in resource management provide handrails that can guide society towards a future that enriches natural capital rather than diminishing it. Linear models of production and consumption of resources produce waste, pollution and carbon emissions. These models must be replaced by new circular models that distribute resources equitably and minimize externalities.
